Sin Mother is a figure who frequently appears in Coughing Lakes folklore and media. She is a sort of boogeyman often used to frighten children into behaving. She is said to be responsible for nightmares and unrest, especially among the weak, and is often credited with causing such ailments as fever dreams. She is also blamed for the behaviour of violent animals, such as fishers, with which she is commonly associated. Though she has rarely, if ever, been seen by a human, Sin Mother is widely considered to be real based on the testimonies of Celestials who claim to know her (such as Forest Dog).
